Therapy Approach
My approach to therapy is integrative. My training and practice have taught me to think about people from a variety of perspectives and draw on different approaches to tailor treatment. While I believe that people’s current patterns derive from their past experiences, the therapy work is done in the ‘here and now’. I help people live richer lives by helping them harness their emotions and challenging them to change their behavior. The models of therapy that I draw on include a variety of evidence-based treatments, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and problem solving therapy (PST). An evidence-based treatment is one that has been researched and found to reliably produce results. In other words, it is the science that goes into the art of doing therapy.
Research has also shown that one of the best predictors of a good outcome in therapy is the quality of the relationship with the therapist. I am strongly oriented to creating an atmosphere that balances acceptance and understanding with a healthy push for change. I naturally have a curious and compassionate stance that promotes both self-acceptance and value-driven change.
